About LXR Travel

A love and passion for all things travel was the beginning. In 1972 Laurie Rusin, Owner and President of LXR Travel began her stellar and recognized career in the travel industry. Her career experience includes airlines, meetings and conventions, large regional TMC account management and executive titles. In 2007 Laurie had a macro view of the direction the travel industry was headed. Digital technology was continuing its rapid growth and artificial intelligence allows for vendors to cull traveler habits and preferences in order to market and price their offerings. Procurement continues to watch out for the bottom line of the company’s financial capital and cost was/is a major factor to the leisure traveler. However, in today’s world a travel program must address their most important asset of all - Human Capital.

LXR Travel LLC was formed in December 2007 with affiliations, technology, networks and incredible people to offer mega agency services with concierge and personal service. Travel is a relationship business much more than it is a commodity. Duty of care, risk management, door-to-door support, traveler satisfaction and ongoing consultative and collaborative thinking to keep any travel program best in class.

Client satisfaction and referrals are responsible for our incredible, rapid growth. In 2011, Erik Rusin, second generation family, joined LXR Travel to ensure that LXR Travel remains forward thinking, adaptable and excels in every service offering now and into the future.

Philosophy

LXR Travel aims to be the best alternative for the traditional mega TMC’s where corporate travel is often a commodity rather than an integral service. When trust in service delivery and focus on cost efficiencies are vital, travelers and companies are finding out that their travel needs are better handled by a nimble, entrepreneurial and quality focused travel management company like LXR Travel.

When LXR Travel LLC was formed it was intentional not to be a franchise of a Mega Agency. Laurie wanted to be able to customize and service her clients with a big agency ability and personalized delivery. Travel Experts is a host agency that is not a competitor by having their own agents and bookings, but rather operates solely as host that provides the benefits of a Group Purchasing Organization. It allows LXR Travel to have the economies of size with the freedom to operate alone. Travel Experts ranks 38th in the Travel Weekly Top 100 agencies. Travel Experts is a Virtuoso Member Agency.

Virtuoso is to travel agents what Relais & Chateaux or Leading Hotels of the World are to properties: an elite consortium of the best in the industry, bound together for mutual marketing benefit and clout, with high standards for membership. There are currently about 350 agencies that belong to Virtuoso, employing around 6,000 agents. Travel Experts consistently ranks in the top 5 of Virtuoso’s 350 agencies.

Laurie began her travel career as a stewardess for a major airline in 1972 (renamed flight attendant in 1974). After marriage and motherhood, she became a sales representative for that same airline in 1976 until she took a position as Director of Meetings and Conventions for a large regional travel management company in 1985. In 1991 Laurie became a corporate account manager and quickly rose to ranks of Vice President National Accounts in 1995. This is a position she held through an acquisition of the agency in 2003. Laurie’s entrepreneurial spirit along with a strong belief in making every trip “special” for her clients/travelers led her to begin the creation of LXR Travel in December of 2007 with mega agency technologies, strategic affiliations and handpicked, top-of-the-industry travel experts.

Minority Partner, Vice President Business Development

Erik is the second generation in LXR Travel serving as Vice President Business Development. Erik exhibits drive and passion to carry on the family business and to take it into the next level of technology, service and client centric excellence.

Born in Buffalo, New York, Erik has had a strong interest in the travel industry from a young age. He was raised in a family with a mother who had a life-long travel career and whose love and passion for the industry fueled her entrepreneurial spirit to form LXR Travel LLC. From the earliest age he has traveled extensively and in all circumstances. Observing industry changes and strategies that insiders cherish to enhance traveler comforts and benefits became second nature to him. He has a devotion to impart this information to all travelers. Erik knows firsthand that to travel with the support of an excellent agency is to travel like a VIP and worry free. Without an agency you’re on your own and travel as “data”.

Erik was a scholarship athlete at State University of New York Buffalo as a football quarterback and graduated with a Bachelors of Arts degree in Communications in 2000. He quickly secured a job with Buffalo Bills Radio network and rose to the ranks of Sports Director but engaged in a part time position with LXR Travel LLC upon its formation in December 2007. Erik fully immersed himself in the family business in 2012 and in 2018 was given a minority share in the business as a partner. He remains instrumental in engaging in community activities, securing new business and communicating with clients about all of the industry changes that will affect their travels, their convenience and their costs.
